EATING DISORDER THERAPY IN CARY NC

Meaningful and Lasting Change

Many high-functioning adults living with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, orthorexia, chronic dieting, and emotional eating are capable, responsible, and accomplished - while privately struggling with relentless thoughts about food, weight, control, or self-worth. As a professional or caregiver, you may be highly skilled at managing responsibilities while feeling increasingly depleted, constrained, or disconnected from yourself.

Unlike younger patients, adults with eating disorders often seek treatment because the cost of continuing has become too high. You may worry about how the disorder affects your intimate relationships, parenting, career trajectory, or health. You are not looking for a shortcut - you want relief, but you also want understanding. You want to know how this developed and why it persists, so change is meaningful and lasting. And you want to proceed thoughtfully, at a pace that respects your life and responsibilities.

Depth-Oriented Outpatient Eating Disorder Therapy

Treatment is designed for adults who are willing to engage in a truly collaborative therapeutic process. My goal is to support recovery while you continue living your life - working, caring for family, and remaining engaged in your professional and personal commitments.

This work prioritizes insight, emotional awareness, and behavioral change over symptom suppression alone. Lasting recovery requires time, reflection, and an active therapeutic relationship. Outpatient treatment may be supported by nutritional, medical, or psychiatric services when indicated to ensure safety and continuity of care.

A Harm-Reduction Model That Respects Complexity

I work from a harm-reduction framework, meeting you where you are in your readiness for change. Many adults with long-standing eating disorders are ambivalent about recovery, even as they long for relief. This ambivalence is not treated as resistance, but as clinically meaningful.

Progress is understood as incremental and cumulative. Small, intentional shifts can have profound effects on both physical health and psychological freedom over time. This approach is particularly useful for adults who have lived with an eating disorder for years and understand that meaningful change rarely happens all at once, but instead unfolds through a series of small, deliberate shifts that accumulate over time.

Experience You Can Trust

I have treated individuals with eating disorders for over 25 years and specialize in adult outpatient psychotherapy. I am a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS) with the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (IAEDP) and an IAEDP Approved ConsultantLocal residential eating disorder treatment programs, primary care physicians, and university counseling centers regularly trust their referrals to me. I also speak to professional, academic, and community audiences on the assessment and treatment of eating disorders.

A Note About Fit

This practice is best suited for adults seeking depth-oriented eating disorder therapy in Cary NC, rather than brief, protocol-driven approaches focused solely on symptom management. If you are ready to engage thoughtfully in a process that addresses both the eating disorder and the underlying emotional patterns that sustain it, this work may be a good fit. Sessions occur at least weekly, more often if clinically appropriate.
